Lay Aside Every Weight And The Sin

Hebrews 12:1: Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

If you are a believer, you are not just running the race for yourself. Many are watching how you live. The great cloud of witnesses includes the Lord Himself, holy angels and all the people you encounter in your life. How you live will affect the rewards or lack thereof that you will get for all of eternity. But it also affects you personally in this life. Genuine Christians living their lives out of the will of God have far less joy and not nearly as much satisfaction here and now. Some seem to have no joy and no satisfaction at all. Worst of all, Christians living in disobedience to the Lord can cause many others to be defiled. We should be deeply troubled by the possibility that some that will be defiled will be our own loved ones.

Hebrews 12:13-15: And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. 14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: 15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

God*s instructions to His children and His dealings with them are not just for them. He intends for His children to be a blessing to many others. Christianity is not a system of selfish solitude. The marks of a Christian in God*s will are that he will be a blessing to others and he will be pleasing to the Lord. He is the most important witness and the most discerning one. He is the one that provides the joy, satisfaction and all of the other rewards.

John 15:8: Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
